Join New Hampshire cellist, Andrew Koutroubas, to experience Bach’s intimate, and timeless “Suites for Unaccompanied Cello” performed on a historical, gut strung, cello typical of Bach’s time (1685-1750).
Through these cello suites, Bach unites varied cultures and styles by including six pieces in each suite characteristic to those different cultures. Each suite begins with a prelude – a meandering, wandering fantasia traversing the many colors, tonalities, and range of the cello. Followed by five dances.
Before the performance, enjoy light refreshments while Andrew Koutroubas gives a brief talk about Bach’s life, the time in which he lived, and the varied characteristics and dances of Germany, France, Spain, and Italy represented in Bach’s cello suites.
Generously hosted by the Hancock Historical Society, this evening will welcome you to the Orland Eaton room on the second floor ballroom of the Charles Symonds house, built 1808-1809. Home to the HHS Museum since 1903, the house has served as a residence, tavern, dormitory and boarding house. This performance, including the pre-concert talk, will run approximately one hour and thirty minutes.
This event is free and open to the public, however tickets are limited, and online RSVP is required.
